Foundational values

IVF has been a source of moral, ethical, and religious controversy in Afghanistan. The practice has however been permitted in some circumstances in recent years, in particular between husband and wife.

Some Afghans are known to have traveled abroad to engage in IVF or surrogacy not available to them in the country.

Permitted and regulated practices

IVF between husband and wife permitted. (First IVF clinic opened in 2010.)
