Key laws and policies
Bahrain does not appear to have national laws or policies specific to assisted reproductive technology practices or surrogacy.
However, there are Draft Guidelines for the Establishment and Regulation of Assisted Reproductive Units and Centres. The guidelines are in accord with existing fatwas.
A committee from the Ministry of Health is in charge of period inspections and evaluation of data of clinics.
The Guidelines prohibit: • Surrogate motherhood • Embryo donation • Gamete donation
Permitted and regulated practices
The Guidelines permit embryo sex selection for medical purposes.
