Key laws and policies

The Maldives does not have specific laws on assisted reproduction. However, Sunni Islam is the state religion of Maldives, and adherence to it is legally required for citizens by a revision of the constitution in 2008.

Prohibited practices

Generally, surrogacy, donation of gametes and embryos, and financial compensation are prohibited.
