Key laws and policies
In Morocco, medically assisted reproduction has not been regulated by law.
However, since 1999, draft legislation from the Moroccan Fertility and Contraception Society (SMFC, Société marocaine de fertilité et de contraception: http://www.smfc-fercofiv.ma/) has been available and operates as guidelines.
A 2007 revision of the draft legislation prohibited:
- Egg, sperm, and embryo donation
- Sex selection
It also limited ART to heterosexual married couples.
Permitted and regulated practices
The SMFC leaves open the question of embryo research and therapeutic cloning.
